Samyama was usually the calmest person ever—like a sloth taking a nap in a hammock, wearing sunglasses. She stayed cooler than a cucumber in a fridge, chilling like it was her full-time job. But lately, her calmness decided to go off on an unexpected adventure, unprepared, like a penguin trying to climb Mount Everest in flip-flops. Everything that could possibly go wrong, did. And suddenly, her inner peace was as lost as her car keys on a Monday morning!
One day, a tiny problem— like a traffic jam, no less—made her feel like she was climbing Mount Everest, but in flip-flops. Then, her coworker joked about her love for pineapple on pizza. Samyama stared at them like they had just suggested eating a shoe for dinner.
“Who doesn’t like pineapple on pizza?” she thought. People around me are soooo frustrating
The worst part?
Her own thoughts were like an annoying neighbor who wouldn’t stop playing the disturbing high DJ music at 3 AM.
She kept thinking, “I shouldn’t be feeling this way. I’m broken!”
But in her therapy session, something magical happened.
She said, “I’m angry and sad... I don’t even know why.”
Her therapist, with a twinkle in their eye, smiled and said,
“What if those feelings are like socks—some are cozy, others are mismatched, but they don’t define you.”
Samyama blinked. “What?”
“Yeah!” the therapist said.
“You don’t have to wear every sock you find in the laundry basket! Your thoughts are like socks — they come and go. Some are soft, others are itchy, but they don’t control you.”
Samyama gasped. "So, I can just let them be?"
"Exactly!" said the therapist,
“You don’t have to believe every thought. Just notice them, and move on. It's like ignoring a fly buzzing around your face—you don’t have to swat at it, just let it be.”
Suddenly, Samyama felt lighter—like she’d just eaten a chocolate cake with ZERO calories. The storm inside her calmed down.
The Moral?
Sometimes, you just need to let things go. Not every feeling needs to turn into a big drama. You don’t have to believe everything your mind tells you. Some thoughts are like socks—you don’t have to keep them at all!
Life’s too short to stress over things that don’t matter. So, next time you're upset, just remember:
it’s okay to ignore the “ Political Marching Gang Bands Music Player” in your head. You'll feel a lot better!
