In a world where everyone is often told to follow the same old rules, the stories of people who dared to stand out are like bright stars in the sky. Two such shining stars are Steve Jobs, the man who helped build Apple Inc., and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a great leader and scientist in India.
Their journeys show us that being different can lead to amazing things.
Breaking the Mold: Steve Jobs
Most people think they need to follow a set path: finish school, work in regular jobs, and then maybe start their own business. But Steve Jobs didn’t do that. He left college after just one semester to chase his dream of making cool, new technology.
Steve and his friend, Steve Wozniak, started Apple in a tiny garage. They worked hard to make things that no one had ever seen before, like the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Jobs didn’t just create gadgets — he changed the way we use technology in our daily lives. His bold ideas turned Apple into one of the richest companies in the world.
Imagine if Jobs had followed the usual route, like everyone else. The world might never have had those life-changing inventions. By daring to be different, he became one of the greatest inventors of all time.
A Path of His Own: Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s story is just as surprising. Most engineers who work for big organizations like DRDO and ISRO go on to get extra degrees and certificates. But Dr. Kalam chose a different path. He focused on building teams and leading people, rather than just collecting degrees.
His bold choices helped India’s space and defense programs become strong and successful. Because of his hard work, he became the 'Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister.' He didn’t follow the usual steps, but instead followed his heart and made a real difference.
Even when he retired, Dr. Kalam faced rejection when he applied for a teaching job at the Indian Institute of Science. But instead of giving up, he decided to inspire young people. He went to schools and colleges, sharing his story and encouraging students to follow their dreams. His connection with the youth helped him become a beloved leader, and he was later chosen to be the President of India.
Dr. Kalam earned many honors, like honorary degrees and some of the highest awards in India. If he had followed what others expected of him, we might not have had the chance to know such a great leader.
The Big Lesson
The stories of Steve Jobs and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inspire us to realize that being different isn’t just about standing out
—it’s about being authentically YOU.
True success doesn’t come from following the crowd; it comes from following your own heart and dreams. These extraordinary leaders dared to chart their own paths, and in doing so, they didn’t just change their own lives
— they changed the course of history.
So, when life asks you to choose your path, remember the courage of these visionaries. True success is found when you’re true to yourself. Don’t fear being different; embrace it. Because in doing so, you just might create a legacy that echoes through time.
Yes they both did fantastic job by thinking and doing differently. ISRO grew to a phenomenal level because of APj Kalam.
