Gambler’s Fallacy : The Next One Has to Be Mine…

🎲 Ayan stared at the screen.

Nine losses.
His heart pounded as he tried to make sense of what was happening.
“Nine times already… the next one has to be a win.”
It felt convincing.
He placed a bigger bet.
Lost.
A knot formed in Ayan’s stomach.
“I can’t stop now. I’ve already lost so much. If I keep going, I can win it back.”
He doubled the bet.
Lost again.
Frustration gave way to desperation. With every loss, he became more certain that a win was just ahead.
Then he paused.
For a moment, he pulled back from the rush of thoughts in his mind.
He saw that he had mistaken a thought for a fact, a pattern for a prediction, and a loss for a reason to risk even more.
The truth was painfully simple:
The game didn’t know he had lost nine times.
Each round stood on its own. The next result wasn’t meant to make up for the last ones.
Ayan put his phone down.

He hadn’t lost control because he was foolish. His mind had simply created a story, and he believed it.

💡 Moral

Not every thought is a fact, and not every pattern has meaning.
When emotions run high, take a moment before you act. Question your thoughts, challenge your beliefs, and choose consciously. Sometimes, walking away isn’t losing.
Sometimes, it’s the moment you finally win back control.
