The master served tea. He poured until the cup was full, then continued pouring. Tea spilled across the table.
“Stop!” cried the professor. “The cup is already full. Nothing more can enter.”
The master smiled.
“Like this cup, your mind is full of opinions and conclusions. How can I show you Zen until you first empty your cup?”
Moral: Wisdom begins when we loosen our certainty. To learn something new, we must make space within ourselves.
The cup overflows...
one quiet drop reaches earth,
emptiness receives.
